It’s our six month anniversary today. My best friend and I.

We’re sort of a private duo. We don’t like the whole attention thing. Coz it’s annoying. I won’t mention who it is. He’s a boy by the way. In case you were wondering. We hate labels. And I’m gonna keep him anonymous. Few of you know, either by guessing or I said it by mistake. Lol.

The funny part is if anyone ever told me that I’d later break my self-made promise of not getting close to anyone, I’d laugh in their faces or walk away. Either of the two. But here I am, letting go of my ego.

Never thought I’d actually have a best friend after some personal issues but ‘what do you know?’ You’ve been such a loving and helpful friend. And as much as I’d hate to admit, I love you. Trust issues are never really good. They make you feel like everyone is trying to hurt you. That’s how I felt and yeah, I still feel that way but I’m healing. Gulp. I hope. But you helped me through with them without even knowing it. And I thank you for it.

Addictions are unhealthy, crazy and wild. I hate them. But my addiction to you is one I hope I never heal from. We both came crashing into each other’s worlds. Oh Gosh. Look at me. I sound like some hopeless romantic. Jokes apart, though, I love what you’ve done to me and my insecurities have skipped from 100% to 30%.  

Self-worth and self-love shows in the way you live and I’m proud of you. You’ve thought me that I’m who I choose to be and labels are never really good.  You showed me that people will only prey on good things. People would only throw sticks at a ripe fruit. I thought I was nothing, believed I couldn’t be something. But you taught me that the reason people preyed on me was only because of jealousy and the fear of how great I could become. You made me believe I was somebody. I am somebody and I’m not just anybody. I’m Grace.

For a while, I thought you were a substitute for my anti-depressants but I found out you’re actually my personal anti-depressant and I appreciate you.

You’re my amigo, ally, closie and confidant and I hope you know your worth. Your funny-but-not-so-funny jokes make me smile so often that I wonder where you’ve been all my life. Lately, I’ve rolled my eyes so much that I think they’re gonna pop out anytime soon. You’re that one person I call a ‘douche’ and then we both smile coz we both know I don’t mean it.

Support is one word for it, but love sums it up.

I love you, minion. I should stop making these jokes. Lmao!

I wrote something for you by the way. A little poem.

Dear Bestie.

A friend like you is hard to find.

One that touches me deep inside.

You’ve given me strength to carry on.

You’ve offered me your hand to hold on.

 

When times are tough, I know you’re there.

To offer support and show me care.

If not for you, I would have drowned.

But you help keep me on solid ground.

 

When things are too tough for me.

I know you’ll stay with me happily.

I believe you were sent from the man above.

Because he knows the strength of your love.

 

You show that love in so many ways.

It helps me get through my darkest of days.

So for that, I write this poem for you.

And tell you from my heart;

His favorite color is black.

He loves looking up at the moon with someone he really cares about.

He doesn’t like it when someone is doing something just to impress him.

He sleeps with the light on. I hate sleeping with the light on.

He hates himself during the first few hours after she wakes up.

He is a dog person. I don’t really like dogs that much.

He listens to all kinds of music and has always been more interested in the lyrics than the genre. I prefer Cardi B Songs.

Just little things about him I can remember.

That matters to me as much as they do to him.

That I notice and make a mental note of without him telling me too.

We met July Ending. Our friendship started August ending.

He’s my boy best friend and I’m sure I’m his best friend too.

In short, I love him. He’s an ‘OG’

My best friend’s name is Deborah Adesola. We are childhood friends and we’ve always been together.

She has stood as my shoulder to lean on and we share everything with each other. She’s taught me that you don’t get to judge others without knowing what they’ve been through. People have their own problems and you’re never in the position to judge them.

I love her so much. She’s like as sister to me.

My best friend is a boy though. He loves dancing a lot. He’s very annoying and I insult him a lot. I actually find our friendship very toxic. It’s the kind you worry about so much but find yourself addicted to. I love him a lot and we make a very good team, apart from the arguments and stuffs. Lol. He’s a shoulder for me to cry on and a table if I need to lean. This is a shout out to you. I LOVE YOU IDIOT!

My best friend and I are very private like you. We love the same things and still learning. We’ve been best friends for two years now. And I have to say, he’s the best. We’re like the sun and the moon, sometimes apart and sometimes close. This is a shout out to him. I love you bro.

MERCY BANJO

Hi Grace! Congrats on your anniversary, by the way!

Ummm. My best friend is my sister. She’s a bit older than me. Her name is Gift Banjo. She’s very smart. Not as smart as me. Lol. So not true. Just kidding. She’s my sister so obviously, we’ve been together our whole life.  We’ve gone through a lot together. Sometimes, it’s been us against the world. I love her a lot and she loves me a lot too. We look alike a lot and I fell like she’s the second me. Like another version. We are not similar in character, just in facials. We fight like normal siblings and we have our differences but I’m glad I have her by my side. She’s MY CLOSIE. AND I LOVE HER FOREVER.
